2024–
The Fashion and Race Database®
The Fashion and Race Database®, founded by fashion studies scholar Kimberly Jenkins, is an educational platform with over 2,600 resources. It explores the intersections of fashion, race, history, and identity through research and curated resources.

Logo Redesign (2024)
Two major rehauls The Fashion and Race Database® wanted when they brought me on board in July 2024, were logo and collateral template redesigns (including for their newsletters). The client, Kimberly Jenkins, wanted something that invoked classic fashion magazine titles.
The new main logos are the monochrome ones, with the initial variations used for tight spaces (squares and circles).
Some variations of the new logo contain The Fashion and Race Database’s brand colors.

Collateral templates Redesign (developed in 2024)
The Fashion and Race Database® needed an updated look for their social media graphics (Instagram posts, YouTube cover, Pinterest header, LinkedIn banners, Newsletter graphics, and more).
One of the essential suites I created was for their monthly themes. Here are my two favorite samples from July 2025 and March 2026, as well as covers of The Fashion and Race Database®’s signature product, their “learning guides.” You can find a full sample in the digital layouts section below.
Part of my responsibility in developing the monthly themes is finding the right photo to illustrate the theme. I usually source the images from the Smithsonian Institution, Unsplash, and Pexel. I’d manipulate the background to yield negative space when needed.
The copy is supplied by the client.
Rebranding: newsletter templates (developed in 2024)
Previously, The Fashion and Race Database® used Flodesk to send their newsletter. But after careful consideration, we switched to Klaviyo. It offers more design freedom, whilst the service and features are quite comparable to MailChimp, a newsletter mainstay I’m also familiar with.
Most of the copy is provided by the client.
Digital Layouts
A large part of my work includes designing layouts for Instagram, following the design templates I created. Here are some samples of the posts. I had to source most of the images, whether through screenshots or stock photo services.
Major projects include The Fashion and Race Database®’s signature digital “learning guides,” booklets for instructors and learners that explore a specific theme in the fashion industry as it relates to social issues. Most learning guides are for paying subscribers to The Fashion and Race Database®; the one shown here is a free learning guide, thanks to a sponsorship by Museum Hack.
My responsibilities include creating the layout and sourcing the images used in the learning guide.
I also create layouts for entries on The Fashion and Race Database®’s website, some based on patterns created by Aaut Studio. Parts of the samples are pixelated because the website is for paying subscribers.
Print Layouts
Although The Fashion and Race Database® is largely digital, from time to time, I get to create physical booklets for trade shows and events.
Here are a few samples of these booklets. I was responsible for creating the layout and sourcing the images.
Photography
Whenever I’m unable to find an image for a supporting illustration, I take the photos myself. Here are samples of some of the images that are used in various publications of The Fashion and Race Database®.
